“WTC Macau Arbitration Center” organized the “Accredited Mediator Certificate Presentation Ceremony” on June 15, 2013 and Mr. Chui Sai Cheong, President of the General Council, distributed the certificates to the 18 accredited local mediators.

To allow those who have finished the 40-hours mediation course in Macau a chance to be accredited, “WTC Macau Arbitration Center” organized its 1st Mediator Assessment and Accreditation in April 2013. The assessment was performed by experienced, professional and pre-eminent mediators from Hong Kong, and the 18 candidates have passed the rigid assessment comprising of written examination and simulated mediation case.

Mr Alberto Marcal, Vice-President of the General Council, said in his speech that the “Accreditation Program, the first and only certification program in Macau in mediation, measures a mediator’s capabilities in knowledge and skills in helping the disputing parties to reach an amicable solution for their dispute. It marks an important stage of the development and implementation of mediation process in Macau”. He also congratulated the 18 accredited mediators and welcomed them to join the mediation panel of WTC Macau Arbitration Center. He further said that WTC Macau Arbitration Center will implement a CPD programme with an aim to encourage the first batch of accredited mediators to continue their professional training in mediation practice not only for their own benefits but also for the benefits of the community as a whole.

Mr Denys Look, President of “Hong Kong Mediation Alliance” and “Professional Mediation Consultancy Centre” felicitated the Macau accredited mediators and addressed the guests on mediation training & assessment in Macau. In this event, Mr Luciano Baptista, mediator of WTC Macau Arbitration Center also shared his experience as a local mediator while Ms Candy Fung, mediator of “Hong Kong Mediation Alliance” shared her views on how to handle complaints using mediation skills.

In attendance were the President of the General Council of “WTC Macau Arbitration Center”, Mr Chui Sai Cheong, Vice-President Mr Alberto Marcal, member Mr Jackson Tsui as well as invited guests from “Hong Kong Mediation Alliance” and “Professional Mediation Consultancy Centre”, President Mr Denys Look and Vice President Ms Annita Mau, mediator of “WTC Macau Arbitration Center”, Mr Luciano Baptista and mediator of “Hong Kong Mediation Alliance, Ms Candy Fung.
