On 28 October 2025, Ms. Leong Weng Ian, Legal Assistant of the World Trade Center Macau Arbitration Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”), was invited to participate in the event “Cooperation and Mutual Benefits – A New Path for Sino-Portuguese Arbitration Development and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Liaison Office between the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology and the Zhuhai International Arbitration Court,” jointly organised by the Zhuhai International Arbitration Court (Hengqin International Arbitration Center) and the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology.
During the thematic exchange session, Ms. Leong delivered a presentation titled “Arbitral Services in Macao Contributing to Sino-Portuguese Economic and Trade Development.” She remarked that as economic and trade relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries continue to deepen, the demand for cross-border commercial dispute resolution is on the rise. Macao, positioned as the “Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries,” possesses unique advantages in arbitration system development and the integration of legal cultures.
Ms. Leong also introduced the Center’s institutional arbitration services, demonstrating its professionalism and structural strengths in handling commercial disputes.
The Center aims to further strengthen international engagement and expand its cooperation network, with the goal of establishing an arbitration service platform tailored to the needs of Sino-Portuguese economic and trade relations. This continued development seeks to provide a solid foundation for advancing legal cooperation and commercial exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
