On 28 July 2025, a seven-member delegation from the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led by Mr. Zheng Zhentao, Party Group Member of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Mr. Pan Xiangqing, Standing Committee Member and Director of the Committee for Social and Legal Affairs, visited the World Trade Center Macau Arbitration Center (hereinafter referred to as the “WTC Macau Arbitration Center”) for a research and exchange meeting. They were received by Mr. Jackson Tsui, President of the WTC Macau Arbitration Center, and Mr. Tam Chi Wai, Council Member. Mr. Liu Gengpu, Senior Officer of the Legal Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, both parties conducted in-depth exchanges on the development of an international arbitration institution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Mr. Jackson Tsui introduced the Center’s organisational structure and its recent developments in arbitration and mediation services. He emphasized the Center’s commitment to leveraging Macao’s unique positioning as a platform, strengthening collaboration with other regions in the GBA, and progressively building ties with Portuguese-speaking countries.

Mr. Zheng Zhentao highlighted that Macao enjoys unique advantages in the development of international arbitration within the GBA due to its strategic location and its role as the “Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.” He encouraged the WTC Macau Arbitration Center to seize the opportunity to expand its scope and strive to become a preferred venue for dispute resolution between China and Lusophone countries.

Other members of the delegation included CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee Member and Deputy Dean of the School of Law of South China Normal University, Mr. Kong Fanhua; CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee Member and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of DeHeng Law Offices (Guangzhou), and Chairperson of the Guangdong Legal Aid Foundation Supervisory Board, Mr. Hu Fangjun, among others.
