On the morning of 11 March 2025, Ms. Wang Heng, Director of the Legal Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, met with representatives of the World Trade Center Macau Arbitration Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”), including Mr. Jackson Tsui, president of WTCMAC; Mr. Chiu Chan Cheong, Vice-Chairperson; Ms. Vong Sok Hei, Secretary-General; and Ms. Li YingXin, Director of the Secretariat.
During the meeting, Mr. Jackson Tsui introduced the Center’s organizational structure, recent developments in its arbitration and mediation services, and its strategic direction for future growth. He noted that national policies supporting diversified dispute resolution mechanisms in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), coupled with the Macao SAR Government’s proactive initiatives to advance local arbitration and mediation services, have presented significant development opportunities for the Center. Moving forward, the Center will continue to enhance its infrastructure and operational capabilities, actively engage with arbitration and mediation institutions across the GBA, and strive to provide high-quality and diversified dispute resolution services for residents and enterprises in Macao and the broader region.
Ms. Wang Heng acknowledged the important role that arbitration institutions play in advancing arbitration and mediation services within the GBA. He expressed hope that the Center would fully leverage the opportunities presented by national policies on diversified dispute resolution mechanisms in the GBA, actively participate in the development of such mechanisms in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and across the GBA, and strengthen collaboration and exchange with counterparts in Mainland China and Hong Kong. He also emphasized the importance of nurturing local arbitration and mediation talent in Macao and improving the quality of legal services to support the city’s moderate economic diversification.
